Sports & Social Club hosted the final rounds of the Whitbread Individual
Competition last Thursday starting with the quarter finals. Still with five
pellets, Ben Chamberlain shot tight fours but could not manage to ring the bell
with a bull in his match against Colin Fulford who is shooting well this season
and showed how it was done hitting two clean bulls, two dirty bulls and a four
for 24.2pts. The match between Simon Dale and Andy Smith was close with both
shooters only finding the bull once but Simon’s was clean which gave him the
match by 21.1 to 21.0pts Alison McMillan withdrew from the match to give Will
Cemis a place in the semi final round. Steve Ray shot against Paul Boazman who
started with a bull but then two fours, a stray three and a final four put him
out of the competition as Steve Ray shot a symmetrical set of pellets 5.1, 5, 4,
5 and 5.1 for 24.2pts.
The semi final and final rounds were shot with seven pellets. Colin Fulford shot
first against Simon Dale. He maintained his accuracy shooting six bulls,
including two clean bulls and a four for 34.2pts. Simon Dale shot three healthy
fours before hitting the bull but upon realising that he could not equal or beat
Colin’s score he retired. Will Cemis started well with three bulls but two four
followed by a bull and another four was not enough against Steve Ray who only
slipped one four with his second pellet all the rest hitting the bull for
34.3pts.
The final between Colin Fulford who is currently having a very good season with
almost 90% of his pellets hitting the bull and Steve Ray who is also shooting
well but who has not shot as frequently this season, was close with both
shooters hitting the bull with their first three shots but Colin Fulford was
point one in front as two of his bulls were clean whereas two of Steve Ray’s
were dirty. Colin Fulford was edged out when he hit a four and Steve Ray hit a
bull but the pendulum swung back in Colin Fulford’s favour when Steve Ray hit
two fours and a bull to finish on 33.1pts and Colin put away three bulls to
finish on 34.3pts which gave him the trophy.
