his
week saw two semi final matches in the Thompson Knock Out Cup Competition.
Binton A put sever pressure on League champions Wilmcote at Avenue Sports &
Social Club and Binton B were hard pressed by MEB at the Home Guard Club,
Tiddington.
In the first match, Andy Morris shot yet another of his famed 34s which was the
highest individual score in this match and he was ably supported by his fellow
team members, all of whom kept their shots tight to avoid the threes. Alan
Brookes shot 33, Brian Adshead shot 32 and John Maycock, Andrea Norris and Tim
Stephens all shot 31 and both Paul Boazman and Lyn Brookes managed 28. The
team’s total from eight shooters was 250pts. Binton A also kept their shots
tight with only one three from the unfortunate Alan Dyer who still managed 31.
The more consistent Binton shooters saw Paul Clingan, Andy Smith and Will Cemis
all score 33 and Gary Hooper shoot 32. John Parrott and Neil Bragg both shot 31
and Michelle Dale shot 30 to give the team a total of 255pts. Both teams having
eight shooters dropped their lowest score which saw Binton A in the winning spot
with 224 to 221pts.
The scores in the second match were not so high with Binton B taking an early
lead which was lost after MEB’s ladies had shot and their rear guard shooters
consolidated the lead to give them the match. Fred Williams had the highest
individual score in the match with 33 and Sheila Clarke shot a confident 32.
Karl McMillan shot 30 and 29 was scored by Jan Beattie and Kath Williams.
Richard Groom shot a par 28 and Oscar Thornton and Ray Hodgkins both shot 27.
Binton’s shooters had a few loose shots which brought their scores down. Top
scorer was Gordon Onions with just two bulls for 30. Jon Packard shot 29 and Joe
Powell shot 28. The rest of the team, Chris Green, Sam Powell, Roy Clarke and
Ben Chamberlain all shot below par scoring 27 each. Both teams having eight
shooters dropped their lowest score which saw MEB win the game with 208 to
199pts.
The final will be shot on April 28th.
It’s a return to the old guns this week for another round of Centenary matches
when Avenue-RBL meet Binton A;
Binton B meet Wilmcote and MEB meet Home Guard.
