Guard who have recently put up a new target plate narrowly beat Binton B by two
points in a match which gave opportunities to four shooters aged under 21. Josh
Bridge and Haydn Taplin who started shooting this season, for Home Guard, both
shot 28 but Haydn was the more consistent of the two. Binton B who until
recently were struggling for shooters had twins, Joe and Sam Powell shooting for
the first time as guests. Roy Clarke had the highest shot 32, for Binton with
tidy 31’s from Bill Fleming, Ben Chamberlain and Jon Packard. Mike Perry and
Gordon O’nions both shot below par. For Home Guard, Steve Hodges shot 32 with 31
from Richard Mills and 30 from Jackie Mills and Derek Powers. Bill Gately and
Irene Parsons shot a par 29 and 28 respectively. With eight shooters both teams
had to discount the lowest score which brought victory to Home Guard 208pts to
Binton B 206pts.
Binton A were at home to MEB. Andy Smith was looking on for a possible as his
first 5 pellets rang the bell but his sixth was a four before he ended with a
bull for 34pts. Will Cemis and John Parrott both shot five bulls and two fours
for 33. Simon Dale and Neil Beningfield both shot 32. Michelle Dale shot a
steady 30 and Gary Hooper 29. Alan Dyer shot somewhat below par. After dropping
the lowest of their scores they totalled 223pts. MEB still have to settle into a
new shooting order. Fred Williams started with four bulls and fours for 32pts.
Oscar Thornton, another shooter who will qualify for entry in the Youth Cup,
Richard Groom and Kath Williams all shot 30. Jan Beattie shot 29 and Ray
Hodgkins shot 29 and 28 respectively. The total score was 206.
Wilmcote had eight shooters for their match against Avenue-RBL. Andy Morris
returned to form for one of his famed 34s. Paul Boazman and Andrea Norris shot
personal and seasonal best of scores 33 and 31 respectively. Lyn and Alan
Brookes and Brian Adshead all shot 31. John Maycock shot below par as did Tim
Stephens whose score ended up being scratched. Avenue-RBL found the target very
tight and pellets which left miniscule marks on the plate failed to ring the
bell causing frustration in their shooters. Steve Ray shot 32, Paul
Nixon-Barron, Guy Ganderton and Dee Green each shot 30. Peter Mole managed two
bulls which were pulled down by two threes for 28 and Steve and Jo Everett shot
below par. Wilmcote with 218 came out winners to Avenue-RBLs 204pts.
Tonight, shooters return to Wilmcote for the last three rounds of the Whitbread
Individual Competition.
