he league matches came to an end with a battle between the top two teams. Binton A were ahead on team averages but whom ever won this match would win the league cup. Nothing rested on the match between Avenue-RBL and Home Guard nor that between MEB and Binton B.

There was only one possible this week. No one was more surprised than Jo Everett, who has been shooting against a glass ceiling of 32pts for a number of years, when she put in one bull after another to score seven bulls, six of them “clean” for her first ever possible. Richard Mills shot a personal best of 34 which got Home Guard off to a great start and it was not until Jo Everett’s possible that the lead swung back in Avenue-RBL’s favour. Guy Ganderton shot a seasonal best of 32 and Dee Green equalled her personal best with 31 but these scores were not enough to stave off Home Guard’s efforts. Colin Fulford shot 34 Haydn Taplin and Josh Bridge, shooting in their first season attained their best scores of 29 and 28 respectively and Irene Parsons shot a season best of 30pts. With only six shooters Avenue-RBL’s total came to 213 and after dropping their lowest score Home Guard’s was 215pts.

MEB were at home to Binton B for a match which proved to be low scoring for these two teams with stray threes on both sides. For MEB, Fred Williams and Ray Hodgkins had the highest scores of 31 but without regulars Alison and Karl McMillan and Jan Beattie MEB had to call back Sheila Clarke to boost their ranks but being un-used to the gun she shot below par. Binton B were also missing two of their regular shooters. Bill Fleming, Mike Perry and Chris Green all shot 31s. Veterans Gordon O’nions and Roy Clarke shot below par and new shooters Joe and Sam Powell were out shot by the more experienced MEB side. The match ended with victory to MEB with 203pts to Binton B’s 197pts.

Binton A had the advantage of their home target in their match against Wilmcote. Both teams acquitted themselves well in this high scoring match. Will Cemis had the highest score with 34 for Binton then Paul Clingan 33 and Andy Smith 32, followed by 31’s from Gary Hooper, John Parrott and Alan Dyer. Simon Dale and Neil Bragg both shot under par getting 30. Four of Wilmcote’s shooters got 33 – John Maycock, Brian Adshead, Alan Brookes and Andy Morris. Paul Boazman hit 32 and Lyn Brookes and Tim Stephens both shot 30. The scores were even at 252pts but both teams had to drop their lowest score which did not serve Binton well as it gave Wilmcote victory 224pts to 222pts. Binton lost the League Cup which they have held for the past four years but Wilmcote were worthy winners.

Senior Shield – John Maycock, one of the three oldest entrants for this competition, took this trophy with an outstanding 23.1 from his first set of five pellets and 23.0 from the second set. Derek Powers was runner up and Lyn Brookes was in third place.

Ladies Rose Bowl – Alison McMillan was unable to defend the trophy but after the first five pellets, team mate Jan Beattie was in the lead with 23.2pts. Michelle Dale with 22.1 from her first five pellets, pulled out the stops and scored four bulls and a four to give her first place in the competition with a total of 46.4pts. Jackie Mills was placed second with 46.3 and Jan Beattie 46.2pts.

Youth Cup – There were only four entrants for this competition, three of whom only started shooting this season. Will Cemis held the lead with 21.1 after the first five shots but Joe Powell who has only shot twice before, gave a good account of himself with 20.2 which included two bulls to Will Cemis’ one. Inexperience saw Joe Powell, Sam Powell and Haydn Taplin all get stray threes from their second five pellets but Will Cemis’ stayed out of the threes and won the competition with a total of 43.2pts. Joe Powell was runner up, Haydn Taplin and Sam Powell made the competition possible.
