rivals Binton A and Wilmcote met again last week to contest the final of the
Four A Side Competition. Binton’s four were the defending the cup against a
strong challenge from the Wilmcote four which this year included new shooter
Andrea Norris who is proving to be an asset to the team. The match shot on a
handicap basis meant that the Wilmcote shooters had to give one point to Binton
and was close throughout with shooters wary of shooting below their personal
averages.
Binton knocked out a second four from their own team in the first round of the
competition by two points; then they saw off a team from MEB by just one point,
to find themselves in the final where John Parrott shot a steady 31 for Binton
followed by Neil Bragg who shot 28, Alan Dyer who shot 30 and anchor man Will
Cemis shot a solid 33. With the handicap, Binton totalled 123pts.
Wilmcote beat Home Guard in their first round match by three points, then
eliminated a second four from the MEB by just one point, to find themselves in
the final where Andrea Norris shot 32, three above par, Paul Boazman shot 28,
Alan Brookes shot 31 and Paul Clingan shot 33 which gave them a winning total of
124 and the trophy.
Avenue-RBL played a postponed match on Home Guard’s target in the Webley Shield
Competition. It has to be said that the visitors were not shooting at their best
with loose threes scattered through their scorecard. Louise Price was first up
scoring 29. She was followed by Paul Nixon-Barron who had the highest score of
30 for Avenue-RBL. Paul Seabury and Guy Ganderton did not shoot very well and
Steve & Jo Everett, though keeping their shots tight on the centre of the target
and keeping out of the threes just could not managed to ring the bell shot at
par. Sarah Seabury was last to shoot and she too had trouble with loose shots.
Colin Fulford got Home Guard of to a flying start with 34 and was followed by
Jackie Mills who shot a par 28. Richard Mills kept out of the threes for 31 but
Joshua Bridge and Haydn Taplin both hit threes but Haydn pulled his back with
bulls. Bill Gately failed to ring the bell for his 27 but Steve Hodges managed
one bull for 29. Last man, Derek Powers had a disappointing score. After
disregarding the lowest of their eight scores, Home Guard came out winners with
204 to Avenue-RBL’s 189.
