League Week 6

he first leg of the Avon Challenge was shot on Monday 26 October at Badsey Royal British Legion Club. The home team shot really well with Mrs A Lewis getting a possible and her daughter shooting 34. D Baglin who has not shot in this event before, also shot 34. I Davies 33, R Pitcher and C Roberts 32, I Harwood 31 and P Skrypczuk 29 finished on 260 points. Stratford shooters just could not get the measure of the longer distance. Andy Smith and Michelle Dale both scored 33; Colin Fulford, Andy Morris, Simon Dale and Paul Clingan all shot 32; Will Cemis got 30 and Richard Groom 29. The Evesham team lead by 7 points after the first leg.

Steve Ray shot his second possible of the season and Peter Mole shot an admirable 30 in the match between Avenue-RBL and MEB. The visitors took an early three point lead but Avenue-RBL stayed in touch with hardly any loose shots this week. Paul Seabury, Guy Ganderton and Dee Green shot 29, Jo Everett 28 and Paul Nixon-Barron 27. Steve Ray shot last and under pressure added 35 to Avenue-RBL's score to give them 207 points. MEB's first seven shooters had 203 points but Gordon Spencer had not shot and neither had Paul Clingan who was suffering from sciatica. MEB's captain made the decision to shoot and he got 33 points. They dropped the lowest of their eight scores (Alison McMillan 31, Richard Groom and Ray Hodgkins 30, Kath Williams 29, Fred Williams and Karl McMillan 28 and Jan Beattie 27) and came out winners by just 2 points. Avenue-RBL worked hard for a win but were pipped at the post. It transpired that MEB are second in the league and needed 2 points from a win to stay in with a chance of catching Binton A at the top.

Alan Watts for the B team had the highest score with 34 and Bill Fleming shot bulls and fours for 33. Mike Perry shot a good 32 and Ben Chamberlain 31. Roy Clarke, Gordon O'nions and Brian Portman had a smattering of loose shots between them but with 212 points the score was above Binton B's average this season. Binton A put on a more consistent show and had no threes on the target. Michelle Dale led the scores with 34, then Andy Smith, Simon Dale and Neil Beningfield all with 33. Gary Hooper and John Parrott shot 31 together with a score of 25 for A N Other, Binton A had a total of 220 points and an unbeaten run of 6 winning matches this season.

Wilmcote fielded a full team of eight shooters for their match against Home Guard. Colin Fulford got the match started with 31 for Home Guard then Richard Mills had a loose shot for 27. Josh Bridge managed a bull but also a number of threes for 26 points. Irene Parsons could only pull one of her two threes back with a bull for 27 but Bill Gately kept out of the threes for 29. Derek Powers shot 28 and an A N Other score of 28 brought the Home Guard total to 196. Jackie Mills who shot 32 last week despite her bad shoulder did not shoot. Wilmcote were the more consistent side with yet another 34 from Andy Morris, followed by 32 from Tim Stephens then 31 from Lyn Brookes, John Maycock, Sheila Clarke and Brian Adshead. Paul Boazman and Jon Packard were the final shooters scoring 28 and 30 respectively. Dropping the lowest of their eight scores, Wilmcote won with 220 points.
