Webley Week 3

Last week saw a full programme for shooters.  On Monday the Stratford Leg of the annual tournament with Evesham League took place at Wilmcote Sports & Social Club.  The Evesham team were leading by 7 points after the first leg. Amy Lewis got the highest score by the visitors, putting away six bulls and a four for a match best of 34.  She was supported by her team mates, three of whom shot 33 for a total score of 261 points.  Stratford's shooters saved the best till last when marksman Paul Clingan shot a possible to bring the teams total to 260 points.  Andy Morris scored one of his famous 34's as did Simon Dale with Colin Fulford getting 33.  The Bill Amos Cup went to Amy Lewis.

Last Thursday Binton A were at home to Wilmcote in the third week of the Webley Competition.  Binton were handicapped by 3 points.  Andy Morris shot his second possible of the season getting Wilmcote of to a good start.  Tim Stephens shot 32 which equalled his season best.  The rest of the team were supportive but they did get three 3s on the board.  With eight shooters, they dropped their lowest score to end on 219 points.  Binton's best score came from anchorman Neil Beningfield who equalled his season best of 33 points.  Will Cemis also gave his seasonal best performance with a good 32 points.  Binton had only two 3s on the target and ended on 220 points which was 2 better than their league average but with a handicap of 3, Wilmcote won the match.

At Tiddington, Home Guard shot against Avenue-RBL who had not shot since before Christmas.  Louise Price started with a close four but went on to shoot 5 bulls before ending on a four when she lost her concentration.  She was more than pleased with 33 being a personal best.  Steve Ray took his sighter and shot a bull but then shot a four before six bulls for 34 points. A smattering of threes left the rest of the team with scores of 30 or less but they finished on 207 points.  Home Guard were a weakened team without stalwarts Richard Mills and Bill Gately so they had to take an A N Other score.  Colin Fulford has been celebrating the birth of his twin sons Oliver and Joshua earlier this week but this did not prevent him from shooting his first possible in this season's League and Webley competitions.  Steve Hodges and Sam Goodman both shot 31 but the other members of the team were less fortunate.  The team lost the match, ending on 204 plus Avenue-RBL's handicap of just one point.

MEB shot on their home target at Wilmcote in their match against Binton B who could only find five shooters and had to take two A N Other scores. Roy Clarke for Binton shot a season best of 32.  Bill Fleming and Mike Perry both shot 30 and Gordon O'nions a steady 28.  Brian Portman, shooting at par, was their last shooter.  The team managed 208 points which included MEB's handicap of 7.  For MEB, Paul Clingan gave the team an early lead with his 34 points.  He was followed by Alison McMillan who shot a personal and season best of 33.  Richard Groom shot a season best with his score of 32.  The team continued to lift its performance, with no threes on the target and with no shooter scoring below 30.  Eight shooters were fielded so after dropping the lowest score, they had a resounding win with 225 points more than 12 points above their league average.

This week, (4 Feb) the Norman Dale Cup for shooters whose average from at least two games is 30 or less takes place at Wilmcote.
