Thompson Replay, Webley League, Ladies and Youth Cups
n
Monday 22 February, there were only three members of the League who were
eligible to shoot for the Youth Cup Competition which is open to shooters aged
21 or under. Joshua Bridge, new to air gun shooting this season and the youngest
shooter came up against the more experienced Will Cemis, who was last year's
runner up and Sam Goodman. Competitors have five pellets on each of two targets
and after the first five pellets, Will Cemis was in the lead with 23.2 points
after having three bulls from his first three pellets. However, Sam Goodman with
22.1 from his first shots, came into his own on the second target shooting four
bulls from his second five pellets to win the Competition with a total of
46.5pts. Will Cemis was runner up and Joshua Bridge made the competition
possible.
The Suzanne Storm Rose Bowl Competition for the ladies of the league, took place
on the same night, with seven entrants. Alison McMillan who has had recent
success in the President's Cup Competition and who is having an excellent
season, came out the winner with 24.3 on the first target and four bulls from
five pellets on the second target for a final score of 48.6pts. Michelle Dale,
who has held the trophy for the last three seasons was behind by only the
difference between a clean bull and a dirty one, saw it slipping away from her
when she scored only one bull from her second five pellets on the second target.
In the Thompson Cup first round re-match which took place last Thursday, Binton A came out winners. Wilmcote had an early but narrow lead until Michelle Dale came to the target and shot 34 taking Binton into the lead by 4 points which the rest of the team built on to give Binton's eight shooters a total of 254 points. Andy Morris also shot another of his famed 34's but Wilmcote's eight shooters were less accurate and totalled 246 points. Binton dropped its lowest score 30 and Wilmcote dropped 28. The final score line Binton 224, Wilmcote 218. Binton will now meet Avenue-RBL in the first semi final at Wilmcote on 11 March. The other semi final will be between MEB and Home Guard at Binton Club on the same night.
The postponed Webley match between Avenue-RBL and Binton B also took place last
Thursday. Avenue-RBL took the lead in this match with Louise Price opening with
33. Jo Everett and Guy Ganderton both shot 30, Paul Nixon Barron shot 29, Paul
Seabury and Steve Everett had a couple of loose threes and anchor man Steve Ray
also scored 33 to bring the team's total to 209 points. Binton B with the
exception of Ben Chamberlain's 33 gave a poor performance which did not reflect
the team's ability. They unfortunately had two outers and too many threes for
comfort which with three points, Avenue-RBL's handicap, meant they ended on only
190 points, their lowest score all season.
Matches tonight will see Binton B meeting Avenue-RBL again but on the Binton
target, Home Guard vs Binton A and MEB vs Wilmcote.
