League Report

Week 2

venue-RBL fielded a team of eight shooters for their match against last year's league winners Binton A. Binton shooters Andy Smith and Gary Hooper put their team into an early lead when they both shot 32pts. Michelle Dale had the highest score for Binton with 33 but Will Cemis had a disappointing 29 though he did stay out of the threes. Neil Bragg and Neil Beningfield both shot 31 and John Parrot 30pts. Avenue-RBL upped their game with far fewer loose shots than last week. New shooter Paul Seabury had much better luck on the home target, with only one 3, which he pulled back with a bull, he scored a respectable 28pts. The rest of the team did their bit to improve on last weeks low scores with Louise Price, Guy Ganderton and Jo Everett all scoring 30, Dee Green 29, Paul Nixon-Barron 28 and Peter Mole 27. Anchorman Steve Ray took his time and shot his first possible of the season. Avenue dropped the lowest of their eight scores to end on 210pts. Binton won with 219pts which puts them at the top of the league table.

Both Binton B and Wilmcote had a poor turn out with five and six shooters respectively. Andy Morris was first up for the visiting team and yet again scored 34pts. Alan Brookes and Tim Stephens both shot 32pts. The team had a smattering of threes but with plenty of bells ringing Lyn Brookes 30, Sheila Clarke 29 and Paul Boazman 28 and an A N Other score of 28, they totaled a very respectable 212pts. Binton B shooters Bill Fleming who shot first and Rob Johnson who shot last, were the only two members of the team to stay out of the threes scoring 31 and 33pts. The rest of the team tried hard with Roy Clarke 29, Mike Perry 31 and Gordon O'nions 29 and two A N Other scores, they ended on 209pts. Victory for Wilmcote places them second in the league table.

Home Guard went to shoot against the MEB at Wilmcote Social Club. Jackie Mills and Irene Parsons had disappointing scores with too many threes for comfort. However, Sam Goodman did better with 32pts as did Richard Mills and Ben Goodman with their scores of 31pts. With Bill Gately's 30 and Derek Powers' 28, the team scored 201 in total. MEB's Fred Williams had the highest score of the night in this match with 34. He put away six consecutive bulls but this was after his first pellet went into the four, so there was never a chance of a possible. Paul Clingan was not as consistent as we have come to expect scoring only 32. Alison McMillan and veteran Ray Hodgkins both shot 30, Gordon Spencer 29 and Kath Williams a disappointing 27 to give the team a final total of 213 but it was enough to beat Home Guard and give them third place in the league.
