Thompson Cup

First Round

In the first round of the Thompson Knockout Cup, Binton A had a close match against Wilmcote.  Wilmcote's Andy Morris shot first as usual and surprisingly failed to get one of his famous 34's.  He was followed by Lyn Brookes who shot a steady 28 but the home team took an early lead when Andy Smith shot 31 and Gary Hooper shot 32.  John Maycock, Wilmcote's veteran shooter had the highest score, shooting 33 and he together with Alan Brookes' 32 levelled the scores after Simon Dale shot 30 and Will Cemis made 31.  Paul Boazman and Jon Packard kept the pressure on as they stayed out of the threes for scores of 30 and 29.  Binton pulled ahead again by just one point after Michelle Dale shot bulls and fours for 32 and John Parrot shot fours and bulls for 30.  Wilmcote's anchormen Tim Stephens and Brian Adshead were more consistent shooters, getting 31 and 30, than Binton's final shooters Alan Dyer 29 and Neil Beningfield 30.  this brought the final scores to Binton 245 and Wilmcote 244 but with eight shooters on each side both teams had to drop their lowest score.  Binton dropped 29 and Wilmcote 28 which brought the scores level at 216 points.  With the match ending in a draw and the cancelled matches in the Webley Competition to be fitted in the match secretary will have a complicated job fitting in these postponed matches.

The score card for the second match between Home Guard and Binton B is still outstanding.  The Webley resumes tonight 28 Jan when Binton A meet Wilmcote once more,  Home Guard and Avenue-RBL shoot for the first time since before Christmas and MEB shoot against Binton B.  Captains of the home team are reminded of the need to return scorecards as soon as possible after the match to Andy Smith or Will  Cemis.
