Webley Week 7

return to the Webley Shield Competition this week saw an outstanding performance from Lyn Brookes and Kath Williams who both shot personal best scores of 34; John Parrott and Gordon Spencer who both shot 33, Sheila Clarke shot 32 and Derek Powers shot 31 a season best score for each and Alan Brookes, Sam Goodman, Steve Hodges, Alison McMillan and Andy Smith all equalled their season best scores with 34 points.

In the match between Wilmcote and Binton B, the home team had a handicap of 9 points. Binton were able to field seven shooters but were unable to shoot above their league average of 205 whereas Wilmcote shot above their league average to win the game. Bill Fleming, Mike Perry and Roy Clarke all shot 30, Gordon O'nions and Brian Portman failed to find the bull and Rob Johnson shot last scoring 31 which brought the team's total to 210. Wilmcote had the bell ringing with 34's from Lyn Brookes, Andy Morris and Alan Brookes, 32 from Sheila Clarke, 30 from Tim Stephens and 29's from Brian Adshead and Paul Boazman to total 222 points. Wilmcote currently top the Webley League table with 11 points from 7 matches.

In the re-match between Home Guard and MEB both sides once more fielded eight shooters. MEB took an early lead with their first three shooters all scoring 34. The other team members lent their support with 33 from Gordon Spencer, 32 from Karl McMillan, 31 from Richard Groom and Fred Williams and 30 from Ray Hodgkins. After dropping the lowest of their eight scores, the team again amassed 229 points which is 17 points above their league average. Home Guard's Sam Goodman and Steve Hodges both shot 34 again, Colin Fulford shot 33, Derek Powers' season best score, Bill Gately shot 30 as did Richard Mills; Jackie Mill shot 29 and Irene Parsons 27. After dropping their lowest score and adding on MEB's handicap of 6 points Home Guard ended on 227 points.

Avenue-RBL were at Binton Sports & Social Club again to shoot against Binton A who on this occasion had only six shooters. Binton A took an early lead clawing back their handicap from the visiting Avenue-RBL team. Andy Smith and Gary Hooper were unlucky, just missing out on possibles, John Parrott and Will Cemis both shot 33, Simon Dale shot 31 and Neil Bragg 30 with A N Other score of 28 they finished on 223 points. Steve Ray was Avenue-RBL's highest scorer with 33, followed by Steve Everett's 31. Jo Everett started with three bulls and went on to score 30 which was matched by Paul Seabury. Paul Nixon-Barron shot 29 and Peter Mole, returning from a two month holiday shot 28. The team Captain's score ended up being scratched. Even with the handicap Avenue-RBL saw the match slip away from them as the threes slipped onto the target.

Tonight the 4 A Side Competition gets underway with preliminary match 1 when the Rebels shoot against MEB B at Wilmcote Sports and Social Club. The winner will go on to shoot against MEB's A Team. In preliminary match 2, Binton Beavers will shoot against the Flintstones at Avenue Sports & Social Club. The winner to go on to shoot against Electric Avenue. Two matches will take place at Binton Social Club when four from Binton B will shoot against Wilmcote and Binton Badgers will shoot against Lambshank Redemption.
