Pairs Finals
The Pairs Competition was shot to its conclusion last Thursday at Wilmcote
Sports & Social Club. The quarter final results - Gary Hooper & John Parrott
44.3 were knocked out by Will Cemis & Neil Beningfield 45.2; Andy Morris & Paul
Boazman 43.1 lost out to Richard Groom & Paul Clingan 45.3; Sam Goodman & Colin
Fulford who shot a mini possible (25.1) set too high a standard for Alan & Lyn
Brookes 44.3; and in the fourth quarter final match, Tim Stephens & John Maycock
45.3 eliminated Paul Nixon-Barron & Guy Ganderton.
In the semi and final rounds, shooters have seven pellets and clean bulls
continue to count as 5.1 points. Will Cemis and Neil Beningfield came up against
last year's finalists Richard Groom & Paul Clingan. Will Cemis and Richard Groom
both shot 30.1 which put the pressure on the second shooters. Neil Beningfield
shot five bulls and two fours to give the pair a total of 63.2 but it was not
enough once Paul Clingan came to the target where he proceeded to shoot a
possible 35.4 giving him and his partner Richard Groom 65.5 points and a place
in the final. In the second semi final, Tim Stephens and John Maycock gave a
good account of themselves but with 61.2 points they failed to get through the
match against Sam Goodman who shot 31.2 and Colin Fulford who maintained the
marksmanship he showed in the earlier round and shot another possible with four
clean bulls for 35.4 to give the pair from the Home Guard team 66.6 points.
The final was a close competition with Richard Groom shooting a steady run of
fours with just one clean bull and Paul Clingan looking as if he would pull off
another possible, but his sixth pellet went into the four before finishing on a
bull for 34.3 points. which gave the side a total of 63.4 points. Sam Goodman
started with a four but then he found four bulls and two more fours which gave
him 32.2 points. Colin Fulford also started with a four but mixing up his bulls
and fours he still shot 32.2 points which gave them 64.4 points and a well
earned victory.
