Thompson Cup

Semi Finals

his week saw two semi final matches in the Thompson Knock Out Cup Competition. Home Guard were put under sever pressure by MEB at Binton Sports and Social Club and Avenue-RBL shot against Binton A at Wilmcote Sports and Social Club.

The match at Binton produced some excellent shooting with a possible from Paul Clingan and 34 from Alison McMillan - a personal best, and Fred Williams for MEB. Home Guard's shooters also shot with accuracy as Sam Goodman shot a seasonal best, Colin Fulford and Steve Hodges all shooting 34. The MEB team were the more accurate shooters with a higher percentage of bulls whereas Home Guard had a higher percentage of fours. Both teams had two threes on the board and an impressive trick shot from Irene Parsons which unfortunately did not add to Home Guard's score. MEB took an early lead and gradually increased their lead as they snatched a point here and there. Karl McMillan and Kath Williams both shot 32 with Ray Hodgkins and Richard Groom both shooting 31. Their eight shooters totalled 256 points but after dropping the lowest score they were left with 229 points. For Home Guard, Jackie Mills shot 31 and Richard Mills, Ben Goodman and Bill Gately all shot 30. They ended on 223 after dropping the lowest score from their eight shooters.

Binton A were favourites to win the second semi final match. They too took an early lead which they built on as the match progressed. Andy Smith started with 33 and was supported by Simon Dale 32, Michelle Dale and Will Cemis who both shot 31, John Parrott, Neil Bragg and Neil Beningfield all shot 30 and Alan Dyer 29. The lowest of their eight scores was dropped to give a total of 217 points. Avenue-RBL had a good start with 31 from Paul Nixon-Barron and 30 from Louise Price and Jo Everett. Guy Ganderton shot just under par with 29, Steve Everett and Dee Green were disappointed with their scores. Steve Ray shot last to bring the total points to 206.
