Webley League
Week 4
here was a return to the Webley Competition this week and some
marvellous
shooting at each of the three venues. At Avenue Sports and Social Club, Paul
Clingan was first to the target to shoot his third league possible. Fred
Williams shot a steady 31. Alison McMillan fresh from her victory in the
President's Cup shot 30, as did Kath Williams and Ray Hodgkins. Jan Beattie and
Gordon Spencer shot 28. Avenue were holding their own with 32 from Louise Price
and 30 from Steve and Jo Everett. Paul Nixon Barron and Guy Ganderton shot 29
and 27 respectively. After five shooters, the home team were five points behind
but they had four points from MEB's handicap but their chance was lost when Dee
Green who has not shot for more than three months gave a disappointing
performance. With all hope of victory gone, Avenue -RBL called it a day and
Steve Ray did not shoot. MEB took the game with 212 points to 202 points.
Both the Binton teams met on their home target. Honours went to Ben Chamberlain
who shot his first ever possible which gave his team victory. Team mate Alan
Watts shot 33, Mike Perry 32, Bill Fleming, Gordon O'nions and Roy Clarke all
shot 31 and Brian Portman shot fours in between starting and finishing with
threes. The team lifted their marksmanship to score 217 which was 5 more than
their highest score this season. For Binton A, Will Cemis took the honours with
a personal best of 34. He was ably supported by Andy Smith, Michelle Dale, Neil
Bragg and Neil Beningfield all of whom shot 33. Gary Hooper, John Parrott and
Alan Dyer all shot 30 to bring their total to 226 points which is 3 more than
they have scored all season. Binton A were handicapped by 12 points which gave
the B team victory with 229 points.
Wilmcote vs Home Guard - unfortunately, Home Guard were unable to field a full
team and as only four shooters turned up they forfeited the match to Wilmcote.
However, shooting went ahead which resulted in Andy Morris pulling out all the
stops to shoot his third possible of the season. In addition, Alan Brookes shot
a season best of 34 and Brian Adshead who returned to shooting this season, shot
33 which is a season and personal best score. Home Guard's Colin Fulford shot
33, Steve Hodges 30 and Jackie Mills and Derek Powers both shot 29. Wilmcote
now take the top spot in the Webley league with 5 points from 3 matches, MEB are
second with 4 points from 2 matches and Binton B are third with 3 points from 3
matches.
The Baildham Table sees Paul Clingan in first place with an average of 34.00
from 10 match appearances, Steve Ray in second place with 33.90 from 10
appearances and Andy Morris with an average of 33.69 from 13 appearances.
