League Week 7

Not possible this week:- For the first time this season, no shooter got a possible this week. There were some close calls though with Home Guard's Colin Fulford, Binton B's Alan Watts and of course Wilmcote's Andy Morris all shooting 34.

Top of the league Binton A were at home to Avenue-RBL who had one of their less consistent weeks shooting, finding that some of their shots which left only a small mark on the edge of the four and which would have rung the bell elsewhere failed to ring the bell at Binton. The whole of the Binton team shot 30 with just one exception, anchorman Neil Beningfield who shot 32 points to give them 212 points and another win for 14 points from seven matches this season. Avenue-RBL were much less consistent with Steve Ray shooting 33 and Louise Price 31. Guy Ganderton stayed out of the threes for 30 as did Paul Nixon-Barron for 29. Paul Seabury, the newest member of the team shot a respectable 29. The rest of the team suffered too many threes for comfort and finished on 202 points.

In the match between Home Guard and MEB, the visitors had just one three on the board and a goodly number of bulls which resulted in a win to give them 12 points from 7 matches and kept them in touch with the league leaders. For the visiting team, Karl McMillan lifted his game considerably to shoot a personal season best of 33 points, Kath and Fred Williams both shot 32, then Richard Groom shot 31 and with 30 points from both Alison McMillan and Gordon Spencer and Ray Hodgkins' 28 they scored 216 points in total. Home Guard had eight shooters which gave Josh Bridge, the youngest shooter in the league, further experience at competition shooting, though his score was eventually dropped. The team was less consistent than its opponents. Richard Mills started well with four bulls but a stray three gave him 31. Sam Goodman also shot 31 but without a three to spoil things. Bill Gately and Steve Hodges both put away good scores of 30. Both Irene Parsons and Ben Goodman were shooting steady fours but Irene slipped two pellets into the threes and Ben dropped one but was able to pull it back with a bull for 26 and 28 respectively. Home Guard totalled 210 points. Neither the injured Jackie Mills nor Paul Clingan shot on this occasion.

Wilmcote took an early lead in their match against Binton B who again were shooting without their incapacitated captain. Roy Clarke shot steadily until his last pellet dropped into the three to give him 28. Mike Perry started with four then a bull then another four before settling in to end on four bulls for 33 points. Bill Fleming stayed out of the threes and a hit a couple of bulls for 30 points but Gordon O'nions has less luck and had to settle for 27. Alan Watts did much better and anchorman Brian Portman was unlucky to finish on two threes. With an A N Other score of 28 Binton B's total was 205. The Wilmcote team were more accurate with only one three on the target. John Maycock shot 32 as did Brian Adshed who is proving to be a consistent member of the team. Tim Stephens shot fours and bulls for 31 and Alan Brookes also kept out of the threes for 30. Jon Packard settled into a run of fours before slipping a three but he managed to pull this back with two bulls for 29. Paul Boazman also shot 29 but without the loose three. Wilmcote's score came to 217 and their win puts them in third place in the league.

The Pairs Competition will be shot to its conclusion tonight (12 Nov) at Wilmcote Sports and Social Club and the first round of the Whitbread Individual Trophy will be shot on Tuesday 17 November.
