Webley - Week 6
nother
of the postponed matches was shot on Monday 1 March when Wilmcote shot against
MEB. Wilmcote with only one three on the target were the more accurate on team
with another 34 from Andy Morris, 32 from Alan Brookes and 31's from John
Maycock and Paul Boazman. Sheila Clarke and Brian Adshead both shot 30 whilst
Lyn Brookes shot a string of fours for 28. This gave the team 216 points and
victory over MEB. Paul Clingan shot 33 and Alison McMillan 31. Richard Groom
gave a competent show with 30. Karl McMillan and Ray Hodgkins shot 29, Gordon
Spencer 28 and Jan Beattie was disappointed with her 27 which brought the total
together with Wilmcote's handicap to 209 points.
The teams met again on Thursday for the reverse match but this time both teams
fielded eight shooters. It almost goes without saying that Andy Morris shot 34
but so did Brian Adshead, a season best for him. John Maycock and Alan Brookes
shot fours and bulls for 31 each and Tim Stephens shot 30. Paul Boazman was not
as accurate as in the previous match and both Lyn Brookes and Sheila Clarke both
slipped a three for only 27 points. After dropping the lowest score Wilmcote's
total was once more 216. MEB's Richard Groom started and finished on bulls for a
personal best of 33. Paul Clingan mixed his bulls and fours for 32 as did Fred
Williams. A stray three pulled down Alison McMillan, Karl McMillan and Ray
Hodgkins' scores to 30 and Jan Beattie and Kath Williams both shot 29. MEB also
dropped their lowest score and the two points handicap from Wilmcote, gave the
victory to MEB with 218pts.
The tables were also turned on Avenue-RBL last Thursday, when they went to
Binton to shoot against the B team again. Binton were able to field five
including Robert Johnson who has not shot since last September and who chose to
shoot against doctor's orders. Unfortunately Brian Portman's gun is still
undergoing repair and he was unable to shoot but he did do an excellent job
painting the target all night. Avenue-RBL's Louise Price and Jo Everett started
and both suffered from a very tight target which should have given them bulls
but it was unforgiving and they had to settle for 29 and 27 respectively.
Neither Paul Nixon Barron nor Guy Ganderton fared much better both shooting less
than 30. Steve Everett did well finding the bull when he started with three and
ended on one for 31pts. Steve Ray settled into the target and shot his fourth
possible this season but this was not enough and with an A N Other score of 27
Avenue-RBL had to be content with 205 points. After last week's poor showing
Binton did well shooting above average. Mike Perry shot 33 and Ben Chamberlain
32 with Bill Fleming and Rob Johnson scoring 30pts. Roy Clarke shot 27 and with
two A N Other scores Binton did not need the handicap of 3 from Avenue-RBL's to
win the match.
At Tiddington, there was some fine shooting with season bests of 34 from Binton
A's Andy Smith and Home Guard's Steve Hodges. Colin Fulford also just missed out
on a possible. Binton's shooters clearly meant business with 33's from both
Simon and Michelle Dale, a 32 from Neil Beningfield and 30 from Will Cemis. Neil
Bragg and Alan Dyer both managed one bull but also slipped a three for 28 to
give the team a total of 218 points. Home Guard's Richard Mills and Derek Powers
both shot 29 and the ladies both had to settle for 28 each. Joshua Bridge was
unfortunate to have a missed shot and threes for a low score. Binton gave Home
Guard a handicap of 11 but they still came out winners 218 to 213 points.
Matches tonight see the semi final of the Thompson Knock Out Cup. At Wilmcote
Social Club Avenue-RBL will meet Binton A and at Binton Social Club MEB. will
shoot against Home Guard.
