Presidents Cup
The Norman Dale or President's Cup competition which is open to shooters whose
average from at least two league matches is 30 or less took place at Wilmcote
Sports & Social Club last Thursday. There were 27 members of the league
eligible to enter but only 15 turned up which meant that one lucky shooter,
Steve Everett, got a first round bye. In both the first and the quarter final
round, shooters fire five pellets and a clean bull counts as 5.1 points.
Richard Mills, Karl McMillan and Alison McMillan all attained the highest score
in the first round, 23.1 points, which saw Gordon Spencer, Joshua Bridge and
Irene Parsons respectively leave the competition. Jo Everett shot 22.2 which
eliminated Ray Hodgkins. Lyn Brookes scored 21.1 to knock out Jackie Mills and
both Paul Boazman and Derek Powers saw off Will Cemis and Paul Seabury
respectively when they scored 20 points.
In the quarter finals, Lyn Brookes shot a mini possible, 25.3 - the highest
score in this round - to dispose of Derek Powers. Alison McMillan prevailed
over her husband Karl with 23.3 and Paul Boazman's 22 against Richard Mills gave
him a place in the semi finals. Steve and Jo Everett both shot 20 and had to
re-shoot which resulted in Steve Everett winning through with 21.1 points.
The semi and final rounds were shot with seven pellets. Paul Boazman shot two
bulls and fours for 30 against Wilmcote team mate Lyn Brookes but this was not
enough. Lyn shot three bulls and fours for 31.1 to secure her place in the
final. Steve Everett also shot 30 in his match against Alison McMillan who was
the more accurate shooter getting five bulls for 33.3 points which took her
through to the final.
In the all ladies final, Lyn could not maintain the accuracy she showed earlier
in the evening and she shot her average from 8 matches, 29 points. On the other
hand, Alison who tends to shoot better under pressure and who only just
qualified for the competition with an average of 30 from 10 matches proved to be
the better shooter with 31.1 points. Alison retained the Cup when she won the
competition.
