League Report

Week 3

inton A kept their shots tight in their match against MEB. Paul Clingan was first to the target and with the advantage of specialist shooting wear, shot his first possible of the season. Andy Smith, Binton's captain, put away four bulls and was looking on to match Paul's accuracy but two fours before finishing on a bull gave him 33. MEB ladies Alison McMillan and Jan Beattie both kept out of the threes for scores of 29 and 30 respectively. Karl McMillan was less accurate, scoring only 26. Tail enders, Richard Groom and Ray Hodgkins both shot solidly for 31 each which just left anchorman Gordon Spencer to shoot. Gordon was unlucky getting two threes but he managed to pull one back with a bull to bring the team's total to 205 points. Binton shooters clawed back the early lead from MEB with 32 from John Parrott and 30 from Gary Hooper, Will Cemis and Alan Dyer and Neil Bragg's 29. Anchorman Neil Beningfield put in three bulls for 31 which brought the total to 215 points and three wins in a row for Binton.

Avenue-RBL were defeated by tactics in their match against Wilmcote. Louise Price and Jo Everett were first up for Avenue-RBL and started the team off well with scores of 31 each but even though Wilmcote's Andy Morris dropped a point when he shot 33 and Sheila Clarke who is having to get used to shooting a Feinwerkbau 601 instead of a Steyr shot a respectable 30, the visitors were a point behind after two shooters. The mid field shooters evened themselves out with Paul Nixon Barron and Steve Everett both scoring 28 and Guy Ganderton matching his personal best score of 32. For Wilmcote, Paul Boazman shot 29, John Maycock 31 and Alan Brookes 30 which put Avenue-RBL two points behind. Dee Green had problems and was disappointed with her score. Tim Stephens' 30 seemed to put the match out of Avenue-RBL's reach until their anchorman Steve Ray went to the target. Hoping to repeat his possible he unfortunately slipped one into the four for 34 but that left Wilmcote needing 28 to draw the match and 29 to win. Trev Skinner slipped two shots into the threes and with only one bull his total was 27. After seven shooters Avenue-RBL thought they had won but then Brian Adshead came from behind the bar and shot as Wilmcote's eighth man. Brian shot in the league some years ago and has been persuaded our of "retirement" to shoot in home matches. He shot 29 which eliminated Trev Skinner's score and Wilmcote snatched the match by just one point 211 to Avenue-RBL's 210 points.

Binton B could only field six shooters for their match at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington. Both teams started of steadily enough when both Bill Fleming for the visitors followed by Mike Perry shot 30 and 29 respectively and Richard Mills followed by Bill Gately for the home team shot 30 and 31 respectively. Home Guard's new shooter Josh Bridges struggled on the target and unfortunately had a miss-shot but so did veteran shooter Roy Clarke which spoiled a good run of bulls. Steve Hodges had the highest score of the match with 33 which kept Home Guard in the lead. Gordon O'nions and Brian Portman had more than their fair share of threes scoring 27 and 26 respectively. Binton's final shooter, Alan Watts kept out of the threes to score 31 and with an A N Other score, Binton finished on 198 points. Irene Parsons fared better this week with 27. Sam Goodman shot 31 but his brother Ben, managed to outshoot him with 32. Derek Powers was the final shooter of the night and even though he shot three threes, he also put away three bulls for a score of 29. Having eight shooters, Home Guard dropped the lowest score and won the match with 213 points.
