Cup Report
President's Cup
he Norman Dale Cup Competition, also called the President's Cup, took place on
29 January 2009 at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington. There were only 18 entrants
which resulted in a lot of first/second round byes for the competition which is
open to shooters whose average from at least two league matches is 30 or less.
In the first round, Doug Dampier, Lisa Edwards, Jeff Smith, Bill Gately, Fran
Westwood, Alison McMillan, Jackie Mills and Irene Parsons all had byes. Ruth
Dampier who won the competition last year with a score of 28.1, was knocked out
of the competition by the difference between a bull and a clean bull when
Richard Mills scored 21.1pts: Ray Hodgkins 20 v Steve Everett 20.1. Wendy Taplin
shot 22.1 which eliminated last year's runner up Jan Beattie who scored 20pts.
Karl McMillan shot well with 23.2 v Derek Powers 19 and Louise Price 20.1
narrowly defeated Jo Everett 20.
Round 2 saw byes for Lisa Edwards, Louise Price and Irene Parsons. Richard Mills
beat Doug Dampier 20.1 to 17pts. Jeff Smith 17 was defeated by Bill Gately 22.
Steve Everett 22 knocked out Fran Westwood 20.1. Wendy Taplin was out shot by
Karl McMillan and Alison McMillan knocked out Jackie Mills.
In the quarter final matches, Lisa Edwards overcame nerves to score 23.2 against
Richard Mills 20.1 to secure a place in the semi final. Bill Gately shot all
fours against Steve Everett who put in one clean bull for victory. Karl McMillan
shot against his wife, Alison. His previous accuracy deserted him when he only
scored 19 which allowed Alison who shot three dirty bulls and two fours a place
in the semi final. Irene Parsons was defeated by Louise Price when she scored
21.1pts.
The semi and final rounds were shot with seven pellets. Lisa Edwards the runner
up in the Ladies Rose Bowl competition last week continued to shoot well scoring
31.1pts against Steve Everett who could only manage one clean bull and 29.1pts.
Alison McMillan easily saw off Louise Price's challenge when she shot four clean
bulls to score 31.4pts to Louise's two dirty bulls and 29pts.
In the final match between Lisa Edwards and Alison McMillan, nerves started to
get to Lisa whose first shot was a three. She recovered with a clean bull then
two fours but slipped another three and two more fours for 27.1pts. Alison on
the other hand seems to do well under pressure shooting three clean bulls, a
four then two more clean bulls and another four for 32.4pts. Her victory, well
earned, follows on from her success in last week's Ladies Rose Bowl Competition.
