League Report

Week 3

inton A and Wilmcote continue their unbeaten run in the 2008/09 league competition and are separated by only 0.34pts on average scores.

Binton A's experienced team were at home to relative newcomers Knights last Thursday. For Knights, Carl Rapson and Chris Green both kept away from the threes to score 30. Lisa Edwards found Binton's target to her liking for although she shot a three she also shot three bulls which gave her 30pts, her personal best so far this season. Jon Packard and Fran Westwood the team's most seasoned shooters both dropped a three and shot a bull for 28pts. Husband and wife Doug and Ruth Dampier clearly did not like Binton's target much as they both unfortunately slipped into the threes and were unable to find the bull. Knights finished on a score of 198pts. Will Troth moved to the Binton team this season from Knights and in this match shot extremely well with five bulls from his first five pellets followed by two fours which secured the highest score of the night of 33pts. Team mates Simon and Michelle Dale and Gary Hooper all scored 32 but their bulls did not match Will's consistency. Alan Dyer, shot a good 30. Phil Hemming and Neil Bragg were the only members of the Binton team to slip into the threes for 28 and 27 respectively. Binton having a team of 8 shooters dropped their lowest score to finish the match on 216pts, which is below this season's average though still a good score and keeps them at the top of the league.

Home Guard were hosts to the second Binton team who could only field 6 shooters which included Kevin Johnson who gave up shooting a few years ago but who has recently decided to return to the sport. Binton B got off to a steady start with Bill Fleming shooting three bulls which were pulled down when his last pellet scored an unfortunate 2 giving him 28. Gordon O'nions and Mike Perry moved the scores up a notch when they shot 32 and 31 respectively. Roy Clarke started with a three but pulled it back with a bull on his second pellet followed by a steady string of fours for 28. Kevin Johnson then came to the mark and with four bulls followed by two fours then another bull for 33, out shot the rest of the team including his brother, anchorman for the team, Rob Johnson who shot 30. With a score of 28 for A N Other, Binton B totaled 209pts. Home Guard's scores were up and down. First there was Richard Mills with a good 30. He was followed by wife, Jackie who shot 32, a personal best this season. Irene Parsons slipped into the threes and with only one bull had to be satisfied with 27. Bill Gately wavered between bulls and threes for 28. Brothers Ben and Sam Goodman had their first outing for the team. Ben struggled to score 26 and Sam was unlucky to just miss out on a possible when he shot three bulls, a four and then three more bulls to give him 34pts. Derek Powers shot a string of steady fours for 28 and anchor man Steve Hodges put away five bulls and a pair of fours for 33. Home Guard having a team of 8 shooters dropped their lowest score to finish the match on 212pts, a good improvement on this season's average score which takes them to fourth place in the league competition.

Avenue-RBL visited Wilmcote. Steve Everett and Paul Nixon-Barron shot a steady 28 but this was founded on a bull, a three and fours. Louise Price didn't start too well with three threes on the target but then managed four fours for 25. Peter Mole shot in the middle ranks but had to break up his shots due to a continuing weakness in his support arm. Jo Everett worked hard for her 29pts. After starting with a disappointing three she put in two bulls, a four and then another bull but a sloppy shot for a second three followed by a four gave her 29 instead of 31 which was on the cards if she had maintained her concentration. Dee Green found her 29 a bit easier with only one three on the target and two bulls. Anchorman Steve Ray boosted the team's total score with his 34, just missing a possible when his second pellet gave him only a four. Wilmcote's Andy Morris got the team off to a cracking start with yet another 34 - his third in three outings. Gareth Morris did almost as well with his 33pts. Alan Brookes shot bulls and fours for 32 and Paul Boazman spoiled his efforts when a three slipped in to give him 31. John Maycock shot fours and two bulls for 30. Lyn Brookes also managed two bulls but a loose three gave her 29. Tim Stephens kept out of the threes but only managed a single bull for 29 too. Trev Skinner shot last for the team. He started with a bull then a four but his third pellet slipped into the threes to be followed by four fours. The team comprising 8 shooters dropped their lowest score to finish the match on 218pts which gave them a well earned victory over Avenue-RBL who scored 189.
