League Report
Week 14
ilmcote
v Guards – The home team got off to a 3 point lead and never looked back after
Tom Morris who returned to the Wilmcote side after a break of almost 3 months,
opened with 31 to Wendy Taplin’s 28. Both the second shooters scores ended up
being scratched when Lyn Brookes got 29 and Nigel Taplin 25. Wilmcote’s veteran
shooter John Maycock, scored 32 to Guards captain, Fran Westwood’s 29.
Wilmcote’s best shooter on the night was Gareth Morris who for the third time
this season, scored all bulls except for his 3rd pellet which dropped into the
fours, for 34. Guard, Chris Green could only manage 29 in reply. Ruth Dampier
was the only Guard to match her opposing shooter’s score after Jack Shipton
matched his personal best of 30 for Wilmcote. Paul Boazman also scored 30 for
Wilmcote which included three 5’s to which brand new Guard Tracy Masters replied
with a string of 4’s only marred by her 6th pellet which unfortunately only
scored a two for 26. Saving the best till last, Guard’s most consistent shooter
this season, Jon Packard scored what he considers an average 31 with a hat trick
of bulls and Lisa Edwards bought up the rear guard with 31 matching her all time
personal best and joint top Guard shooter on the night. Andy Morris scored what
for him was a below average 33 and team mate Alan Brookes shot 32, which was one
more than his average for this season. The final score after disregarding the
lowest of the team’s eight score was an easy win for Wilmcote with 222 to Guards
204.
Binton A v Avenue-RBL – Binton fielded a strong eight man team in the match
against Avenue-RBL who were without their best shooter, Steve Ray, and
maintained their place for the disputed top spot in the league. Paul Nixon
Barron was first up but with a string of fours punctuated by a three could only
manage 27 on the new semi automated target created by Binton’s Andy Smith who
shot an excellent 34 putting his team well in the lead. Louise Price, flushed
with last week’s personal success tried hard to match her last performance but
fell short by one point when she scored 32 which proved the best individual
score Avenue-RBL could manage on the night. Gary Hooper shot a steady 31pts. Dee
Green managed one above her average when she shot 29. Simon & Michelle Dale both
shot above their averages when Simon put away five bulls for 33 and Michelle
just missed out on a possible with 34. Peter Mole’s first three pellets which
scored 13, showed a promise which was not to be fulfilled when his next three
pellets lodged in the threes, a final four gave him 26. Chef, Will Troth
shooting the Feinwerkbau started with a bull but then got frustrated when he
repeatedly failed to hit the bull until his last two pellets gave him 31. His
chocolate cake was appreciated though by both teams. Guy Ganderton for Avenue-RBL
shot fours and bulls until his last pellet slipped into the three for 29. John
Parrot kept the pressure on when he shot 32 which Jo Everett was unable to
match. Alan Dyer for Binton shot an unusual three with four fours and two bulls
for 29 and was followed by Kerry Davies who in her second match, also shot 29.
The game was over by the time Neil Beningfield shot a safe 30 and Richard
Bambridge struggled to shoot 25 which in the final counting was ignored. Binton
also had an easy win 225 to 201pts.
Finally in the match between MEB v Home Guard, Paul Clingan gave his team an
early lead when he shot his fourth possible of the season. Home Guard's opening
shooter, Richard Mills shot a respectable 30. but his wife Jackie and Irene
Parsons both struggled shooting threes for 27 and 26 respectively. Richard Groom
and Karl McMillan both shot fours and bulls for 31 to take MEB further into the
lead. Bill Gately was the first of the Home Guard team to lift their game and
pulled a couple of points back when he shot 31. Kath Williams matched this score
and was followed by Steve Hodges who shot 30. Gordon Spencer found some of his
old form when he shot 30 but a rear guard action was left too late as Carl
Villiers bettered this with 31, Colin Fulford 33 and Sam Goodman 31 to give the
Home Guard team a final score of 213pts. MEB's anchor duo of Ray Hodgkins and
Jan Beattie shot 32 and 31 respectively giving MEB a resounding victory with
221pts.
Wilmcote and Binton A have both won 10 of their 11 games and are clear of the
rest of the league with 20pts. They will meet to decide which team will win the
League on 18 Dec. MEB have come third with 16 pts followed by Home Guard, Binton
B, Guards and Avenue-RBL.
