Cup Match Report

Whitbread Finals

The Whitbread Individual Competition was shot out on Tuesday at the Home Guard Club. In this competition, competitors shoot five pellets in the initial rounds. In the semi and final rounds seven pellets are shot. A clean bull counting as 5.1pts. Colin Fulford's second round challenger failed to show leaving him with a challenging quarter final match against Paul Clingan. Colin acquitted himself well with four bulls from five pellets for 24.3 but Clingan repeated his performance in the first two rounds to shoot a mini possible 25.4pts. Andy Morris shot 23.2 against Jackie Mills in the second quarter final. Sam Goodman's two clean bulls and fours for 22.2pts gave him the edge over Gareth Morris 22pts. Will Troth with his score of 23.1 knocked out Tim Stephens.

In the first semi final, the leagues two most accurate shooters, Paul Clingan and Andy Morris met. Both shooters gave a good display of how the game is played each getting six bulls and only one four. It was Andy's five clean bulls which gave him 34.5pts and a place in the final edging out of the competition, Paul Clingan who shot 34.4pts . In the other semi final, two very capable youth shooters, Sam Goodman and Will Troth met. Will Troth did well with three bulls and fours for 31 but this was not enough against Sam Goodman who, with five bulls and 33.2pts secured a place in the final.

The final proved to be a very close match. Sam Goodman though relatively inexperienced was not put off by Andy Morris' reputation putting up an excellent show. He dropped only one four and with three clean bulls and two dirty bulls must have been feeling happy and fairly confident with his score of 34.3pts. However, Andy Morris's experience and consistency showed through and with a possible including two clean bulls, he won the competition with an outstanding 35.2pts.
