Webley Shield
Week 6
he
penultimate week of the Webley Competition took place on 9 April when MEB met
Wilmcote in a rehearsal for the final of the Thompson Knock Out Cup which will
be held on 30 April. The teams have already met twice in the league when
Wilmcote won on both occasions. However, MEB raised their game for this Webley
match and shot above their league average to score 218pts which included yet
another possible for marksman Paul Clingan and which equalled Wilmcote's score.
The handicap system gave 5pts and victory to MEB.
Binton B met Home Guard with both teams looking for a win to keep their chances
of winning the Shield alive. Binton shot 5pts above their league average to
score 216pts but Home Guard who have consistently been shooting above their
league averages too were once again able to raise their game so that the final
result all depended on their final shooter, Colin Fulford. Despite the pressure,
he shot his third possible of the season, bringing Home Guard's score to 215pts
which with Binton's handicap of just one point, resulted in a drawn match. The
Webley rules awarded the match to the team with the lowest league average which
gave Home Guard a win in their final match of this competition and a total of
8pts from their six matches which will not be enough to win the competition.
Avenue-RBL were looking to maintain their unbroken run of undefeated games were
at home to Guards, who were able to field only six shooters. Guards with a
smattering of threes and an A N Other score of 26 shot 202pts. Avenue-RBL were
able to raise their game to score 208pts which included 34 from Steve Ray,
winning the match without taking into account Guard's handicap. what could be considered to be a rehearsal for the Thomson final?
