Webley Report
Week 4
ast week saw the
fourth week of the Webley Shield Competition. Avenue-RBL who had a bye still
managed to keep the top of the table with 6 points from three matches.
Wilmcote's veteran shooter, John Maycock shot a possible in the match between
Wilmcote and Binton B who failed to show the accuracy they have proved
themselves capable of in this competition. On the whole, Binton had difficulty
finding the bull on the Wilmcote target save for Kevin Johnson who shot 32 and
Gordon O'nions 31. The rest of the team struggled with Mike Perry and Alan Watts
both scoring 29, Bill Fleming and Rob Johnson 28 and Roy Clarke who
unfortunately had only six pellets which counted. With 7 points from Wilmcote,
they scored only 209. Wilmcote's Andy Morris was first up scoring 32 and it was
good to see Lyn Brookes return from ill health to score 29. John Maycock who has
not scored a possible since he re-joined the league a few years ago was more
than pleased as he hit bull after bull to score his 35pts. Gareth Morris shot
32, Alan Brookes 31 and Paul Boazman also shot well with 33. With a team of only
six Wilmcote had to rely on A N Other 25 to total 217pts which gave them a clear
victory over the Binton team and their first win in the Webley this year.
Home Guard and MEB had a close match with each team getting five threes on the
target. Paul Clingan started for MEB and shot his sixth possible this season
putting his team into an early lead which was consolidated by Kath Williams 31
and Jan Beattie 30. In answer, Home Guard's Richard Mills shot 29 followed by
Irene Parsons 26 and Steve Hodges 32. The middle ranks were better matched when
for MEB, Richard Groom shot 30, Alison McMillan 31 and Karl McMillan 29 whilst
Home Guard's Bill Gately shot 30, Colin Fulford 33 and Derek Powers 29. Anchor
men Ray Hodgkins and Gordon Spencer shot 27 and 28 respectively which gave the
MEB a total of 214pts. Ben Goodman and Sam Goodman shot 26 and 31 respectively
to end the evening's shooting. Home Guard having eight shooters dropped their
lowest score of 26 and added on MEB's handicap of 3 to finish on 213pts.
Binton A were at home to Guards who are now shooting without their captain Fran
Westwood who has moved down south. Guards had seven threes on this target which
kept their overall scores on the low side but with 16pts in hand from Binton's
handicap the result was not hard to forecast. Carl Rapson and Jon Packard both
shot 31 for Guards, then Lisa Edwards, Doug Dampier and Wendy Taplin all shot 30
and Chris Green, Tracy Masters and Ruth Dampier all shot 29. Binton kept out of
the threes when Simon Dale shot 33, Michelle Dale 32, Andy Smith, Gary Hooper,
Will Cemis, John Parrot and Alan Dyer all hit fours and bulls for 31 and Neil
Beningfield shot 30. Both teams having eight shooters, dropped their lowest
score which left Binton with 220 and Guards with 210 but the handicap of 16 gave
the match to Guards.
