Webley Report

Week 3

ast Thursday saw a return to the Webley Shield Competition when Avenue-RBL and Home Guard met to contest the top of the Webley League. Both teams were able to field eight shooters. Avenue-RBL got off to a poor start when Jo Everett shot three below her average and Irene Parsons for the visiting team had equal bad luck, both ended up having their scores scratched. Richard Mills and his wife Jackie started well with 29 and 31 respectively which pulled back six of the eight point Home Guard handicap. Louise Price kept her shots tight but was unable to ring the bull and had to settle for 28pts. Guy Ganderton and Steve Everett both maintained their average scores shooting 29. Bill Gateley and Steve Hodges for the visitors followed by Kerry Davies, Paul Nixon-Barron and Dee Green for the home team all shot 30. Ben Goodman had a very good night shooting 32, a personal best this season. Derek Parsons was not so lucky, starting with two threes then fours for 26. Anchor men Sam Goodman and Steve Ray both shot bulls and fours for 33. The handicap gave Avenue-RBL a total of 218pts to Home Guards' 211pts and top of the League with 6pts from 3 matches.

In the match between MEB and Binton A, Paul Clingan shot his 6th possible of the season which with Binton's 7pt handicap put MEB into an early lead which they held onto for the whole of this high scoring match. Binton put up a fight with no member of the team scoring less than 30pts. Michelle Dale started with a four but then went on to shoot six consecutive bulls for 34. Simon Dale shot four bulls before slipping two pellets into the fours before ending on a bull for 33. Will Troth shot bulls and fours for 32. Andy Smith and Neil Bragg both shot fours and bulls for 31. Phil Hemming and John Parrott shot fours and two bulls for 30. dropping one of their lowest scores of 30, Binton ended on 222pts. For MEB, Kath Williams and Karl McMillan shot 33, Fred Williams shot 32. Richard Groom and Gordon Spencer shot 29pts and unfortunately, Alison McMillan could not reproduce the accuracy she showed in recent competitions, scoring only 27 brought the team's total to 218pts but with 7pts from Binton victory was MEB's with 225pts.

The match between Guards whose captain, Fran Westwood is understood to be leaving to live in the Weymouth area and Wilmcote was postponed.

This week (12 Feb) sees the first round of the Four A Side Competition with Binton B v Teatotallers; MEB A v Guards Men; Guards Girls v Windy Parathooper; Home Guard B v MEB B and Wilmcote v Home Guard A. Avenue-RBL
