League Report - Matches shot on the 20th September 2007
Avenue-RBL vs MEB: Avenue-RBL
played their first home match last Thursday against MEB who are now shooting at
full strength. Paul Clingan up first for MEB shot 5 bulls and looked to be on
for a possible until his 6th shot slipped into the 4's to give him 34pts. Guy
Ganderton for Avenue-RBL slipped a couple of 3's and had to be satisfied with a
disappointing 27pts. Ray Warnock(MEB) settled for 32 and Paul Nixon-Barron
(Avenue-RBL) slipped a 3 to score 29pts. With MEB 10 points in the lead all
looked lost for Avenue-RBL but Steve Everett pulled 3 back with his score of 30,
only to have two taken back by Kath Williams and another two by Sheila Clarke.
Fred Williams (MEB) struggled to shoot 30 and Avenue-RBL's Steve Ray shot 32.
With A N Other's score of 27 the home team finished on 204. Ray Hodgkins and
Gordon Spencer were the last two shooters for MEB. The team dropped the lowest
score of its eight shooters to finish on 214.
Binton A vs Binton B: Binton A met club mates Binton B. This match was much
closer than the final score Binton A 214 and Binton B 207 suggests. The A team
took an early lead when Simon Dale equalled his last week's score of 33. Jim
Usher made a solid start for the B team with his score of 30. He was followed by
Mike Perry who started his turn with three fours but then he couldn't miss the
bull, putting four into the centre of the target to give him 32pts. Michelle
Dale started with two bulls but then just couldn't find the centre, shooting
five fours and 30pts. The A team's lead was reduced to just one point. Roy
Clarke shot steadily until he dropped a three with his final shot but after Gary
Hooper who only found the bull once and shot 29pts the B team had edged in front
by just one point. Brian Portman struggled with his shooting and Alan Dyer
pulled points back to put Binton A back into the lead by three points. Gordon
O'nions for the B team shot a steady 29 which John Parrot was unable to match so
the points were snatched back by B team to leave the scores level. Ben
Chamberlain, the last shooter for the B team shot 32, as did Neil Bragg and Neil
Beningfield for the A team. Andy Smith, the A team's final shooter shot 29.
dropping the lowest of it's a scores, the A team finished on 214 and the B team,
taking 28 for A N Other finished on 207pt.
Knights vs Home Guard: Jackie and Richard Mills opened for Home Guard scoring
30pts each. Chris Green, another new shooter for the Knights' team started with
a safe 28 in his first competitive match. He was followed by Jon Packard who
shot 31, thus giving the Home Guard an early lead of only one point. Home Guard
continued to outshoot the new Knights' shooters who lacked consistency when
compared to the more experienced Home Guard team. After five shooters for each
team, Home Guard were leading by four points. Ben Goodman (Home Guard)
unfortunately dropped three 3's and with one bull scored a disappointing 26. He
was followed by Fran Westwood (Knights) who put in two bulls to give her 30
points and brought the scores level. Both teams cheered on the best shooting of
the night, as Home Guard's Colin Fulford, attempted a possible, which was spoilt
by one a wayward 4 on his 6th shot. The match was brought to a close as the
final shooters, Derek Powers for Home Guard and Carl Rapson for Knights scored
31points. Both sides fielded eight shooters and each dropped the lowest score of
the night to end the match with a victory for the away team, Home Guard scored
209 points to Knights 205 points.
Matches tonight 27 Sept see Binton B at home to MEB: Home Guard are to shoot
against Binton A: Wilmcote will shoot against Avenue-RBL and Knights have a bye.
The league is in need of new shooters and another team would be a welcome bonus.
