League Report - Matches shot on the 20th September 2007

Avenue-RBL vs MEB: Avenue-RBL played their first home match last Thursday against MEB who are now shooting at full strength. Paul Clingan up first for MEB shot 5 bulls and looked to be on for a possible until his 6th shot slipped into the 4's to give him 34pts. Guy Ganderton for Avenue-RBL slipped a couple of 3's and had to be satisfied with a disappointing 27pts. Ray Warnock(MEB) settled for 32 and Paul Nixon-Barron (Avenue-RBL) slipped a 3 to score 29pts. With MEB 10 points in the lead all looked lost for Avenue-RBL but Steve Everett pulled 3 back with his score of 30, only to have two taken back by Kath Williams and another two by Sheila Clarke. Fred Williams (MEB) struggled to shoot 30 and Avenue-RBL's Steve Ray shot 32. With A N Other's score of 27 the home team finished on 204. Ray Hodgkins and Gordon Spencer were the last two shooters for MEB. The team dropped the lowest score of its eight shooters to finish on 214.

Binton A vs Binton B: Binton A met club mates Binton B. This match was much closer than the final score Binton A 214 and Binton B 207 suggests. The A team took an early lead when Simon Dale equalled his last week's score of 33. Jim Usher made a solid start for the B team with his score of 30. He was followed by Mike Perry who started his turn with three fours but then he couldn't miss the bull, putting four into the centre of the target to give him 32pts. Michelle Dale started with two bulls but then just couldn't find the centre, shooting five fours and 30pts. The A team's lead was reduced to just one point. Roy Clarke shot steadily until he dropped a three with his final shot but after Gary Hooper who only found the bull once and shot 29pts the B team had edged in front by just one point. Brian Portman struggled with his shooting and Alan Dyer pulled points back to put Binton A back into the lead by three points. Gordon O'nions for the B team shot a steady 29 which John Parrot was unable to match so the points were snatched back by B team to leave the scores level. Ben Chamberlain, the last shooter for the B team shot 32, as did Neil Bragg and Neil Beningfield for the A team. Andy Smith, the A team's final shooter shot 29. dropping the lowest of it's a scores, the A team finished on 214 and the B team, taking 28 for A N Other finished on 207pt.

Knights vs Home Guard: Jackie and Richard Mills opened for Home Guard scoring 30pts each. Chris Green, another new shooter for the Knights' team started with a safe 28 in his first competitive match. He was followed by Jon Packard who shot 31, thus giving the Home Guard an early lead of only one point. Home Guard continued to outshoot the new Knights' shooters who lacked consistency when compared to the more experienced Home Guard team. After five shooters for each team, Home Guard were leading by four points. Ben Goodman (Home Guard)
unfortunately dropped three 3's and with one bull scored a disappointing 26. He was followed by Fran Westwood (Knights) who put in two bulls to give her 30 points and brought the scores level. Both teams cheered on the best shooting of the night, as Home Guard's Colin Fulford, attempted a possible, which was spoilt by one a wayward 4 on his 6th shot. The match was brought to a close as the final shooters, Derek Powers for Home Guard and Carl Rapson for Knights scored 31points. Both sides fielded eight shooters and each dropped the lowest score of the night to end the match with a victory for the away team, Home Guard scored 209 points to Knights 205 points.

Matches tonight 27 Sept see Binton B at home to MEB: Home Guard are to shoot against Binton A: Wilmcote will shoot against Avenue-RBL and Knights have a bye.
