Webley League, 24th April 2008

Last week the bell target shooting season came to an end when Binton B were confirmed as winners of the Webley Shield Handicap Competition winning five of their six matches for 10 points with Home Guard runners up with 9 points from 6 matches.

Binton A met the MEB team again but this time they were on home territory.  In a close match both teams reached a high standard with most shooters scoring only bulls and fours. Best shot for MEB was Sheila Clarke with 33 then Paul Clingan 32, Ray Warnock and Fred Williams 31, Jan Beattie 30, Kath Williams, Ray Hodgkins and Gordon Spencer all shot 29 to give the team a total of 244pts.  Their lowest score was dropped to give them 215pts.  The Binton A team were able to lift their game to notch up some excellent scores with Michelle Dale and Andy Smith who matched his previous week's performance shooting 33, Phil Hemming and John Parrott 31, Gary Hooper 30, Mark Oakey and Neil Bragg both shot 29. This gave Binton the game with 216pts which took the pressure off anchor man Jeff Smith.

Home Guard shot their final fixture against Wilmcote who with a handicap of 9 got off to a good start with Tom Morris's 34.  Alan Brookes and Andy Morris did well with 33pts.  Tim Stephens and Paul Boazman shot 31, Gareth Morris shot 30 and John Maycock and Trev Skinner shot 29.  With only four threes on the board and after dropping the lowest score Wilmcote amassed 221pts.  Home Guard struggled and were unable to find the form they showed in earlier games.  Steve Hodges shot his season's best with 34, Richard Mills even with a three shot 30 then Jackie Mills who kept out of the three's could only manage 29.  Bill Gately shot two bulls but also two threes for 28.  Too many three's followed leaving, Irene Parsons, Sam Goodman, Derek Powers and Ben Goodman all with 27. After dropping the lowest score and adding on the handicap Home Guard had to settle for 211pts.

Knights were at home to Avenue-RBL.  It has to be said that performances were uninspired on both sides, with threes smattering the score board. Steve Everett was the only member of Avenue-RBL to avoid the threes but with only one bull shot 29.  Paul Nixon Barron shot two bulls but with a three also shot 29.  Other members of the team shot lack lustre 27's. Knights had mixed fortunes too with Jon Packard picking up his game for the final match to shoot 31, Doug Dampier did very well to match Will Troth's 29.  Carl Rapson started with two bulls but then he had a miss-fire and with another bull and fours had to make do with 27 which Ruth Dampier also scored.  The A N Other scores pulled Avenue-RBL's score up to 194 but Knights won the match with 200pts.

Captains are reminded that all trophies should be taken to the next Delegate's Meeting to be held on May 6 in readiness for Presentation Night which will be held at Wilmcote on Saturday 17 May.
