League Report - Matches shot on the 13th September 2007

Binton A, last season's league winners, were at home last Thursday and got off to a good start when they defeated the new team, Knights. Carl Rapson was first up for the visitors and shot a steady 30. This was matched by Mark Oakey for Binton A. Husband and wife, Doug and Ruth Dampier, were next for Knights but these new shooters were no match for the experienced couple, Simon and Michelle Dale, who got the best shots of the match with 33 and 34 respectively, to put Binton A in the lead by 12 points after three shooters. Two more new shooters, both juniors, were on next for Knights. Lisa Edwards who dropped a couple of 3's to give her 27 and Will Troth who did well to shoot 31 in their first competition matches. Binton's Gary Hooper and John Parrott maintained the pressure, with their scores of 31 each which pushed the home team further ahead. Fran Westwood and Jon Packard could not pull it back with their scores of 28 and 32. Alan Dyer and Andy Smith both shot 32. With eight shooters, Binton dropped their lowest score of 29. The seven remaining scores, all over 30, gave the team an impressive total of 223 points over Knights total of 203 points.

Home Guard were at home to Avenue-RBL. Guy Ganderton, followed by Paul Nixon Barron set the standard for the visitors with their scores of 31 each. Jackie and Richard Mills for Home Guard both dropped a three to give them 29 and 30 respectively. Avenue-RBL were three points in the lead which increased to 7 points after the next two shooters for both sides. Dee Green for Avenue-RBL, who only shot infrequently last season, scored 27 and Sam Goodman for Home Guard pulled 2 points back with his score of 29. Avenue-RBL only had one more shooter, Steve Ray and despite their lead, the match could have gone either way as Home Guard still had up to three shooters they could put on. Steve Ray looked on for a possible when he shot 5 bulls but it was not to be and two 4's gave him a total of 33 points, and the highest score in the match. Steve Hodges, who returned to shoot for Home Guard after a season out, scored a very respectable 32, then Ben Goodman and Derek Powers finished the night off for the home team. Dropping the lowest score Home Guard finished on 206 points and with the benefit of A N Other, Avenue-RBL ended on 209 points.

MEB were at home to Wilmcote but their score has not yet reached the match secretary. Binton A top the league, followed by Avenue-RBL.

The league is in need of new shooters and another team would be a welcome bonus. If you fancy air gun shooting, have a look at us on our website www.sagl.co.uk or why not contact the match secretary at sagmatchsec@ntlworld.com or ring Roy Clarke on 01789 720340
