4-A-Side Finals Report - Matches shot on the 13th March 2008

The Four A-side Competition was shot to its conclusion last Thursday at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington. In the first of two semi final matches, Knights B shot against Avenue-RBL. Knights won the toss but decided to shoot second. Avenue-RBL had an uphill struggle as they were shooting with an eleven point handicap but the team rose to the occasion with all the team members shoot above their individual averages. Paul Nixon-Barron got off to a good start with 31, followed by Guy Ganderton 29, Jo Everett 32 and Steve Ray 34. Knights' shooters Lisa Edwards and Doug Dampier shot particularly well scoring 29 each which was 3 above Lisa's average and 4 above Doug's. Fran Westwood equalled her average with 28 and Ruth Dampier shot 32 which was 4 above to give the team a total of 129 with the handicap and victory over Avenue-RBL's 126.

In the second semi final match, MEB Ladies & Fred shot against Wilmcote A. This was a close match in which Jan Beattie did well, shooting 2 over her individual average for 31, Kath and Fred Williams both shot 30, and Sheila Clarke one above her average for 32. For Wilmcote, Tom Morris shot a well earned 34 with just his middle pellet failing to ring the bell, Paul Boazman 29, Trev Skinner 26 and anchorman Andy Morris 33. This brought the scores to MEB 123pts and Wilmcote 122pts but the MEB team had a handicap of just one point to give Wilmcote which made the scores level but the team with the lowest average is given the advantage of the draw and Wilmcote were awarded the match.

In the final, Knights once again put the opposition in to shoot first. Tom Morris shot five bulls and two fours for 33, Paul Boazman shot one more than in his earlier visit to the target with 30 and Trev Skinner dropped two threes but was able to pull them back with two bulls for 28. Andy Morris shot last for Wilmcote and under severe pressure shot his first possible of the season and brought his team's total score to 126 which was six above their collective average scores but was it enough in view of the fact that Wilmcote were shooting with a handicap of 9 and Knight's had already shot 9 above their collective average earlier that night?. Lisa Edwards and Doug Dampier for Knights B kept their nerve and were able to repeat their performances from the semi final, shooting 30 and 29 respectively. Fran Westwood put in two threes for 27 which left it all for Ruth to do. She needed 31 or higher to win the match for her team but shooting after Andy Morris' possible proved too much of a challenge. She started with a three then a run of fours. Unable to find the bull she could only bring the team's total to 122. The Wilmcote A team were winners of the competition Four A-side Competition.

This Thursday (20 March) sees the semi final round of the Thompson Knock Out Cup with old rivals Wilmcote shooting against MEB and Home Guard shooting against Binton.

Round 5 of the Webley Shield Competition will take place on Thursday 27 March when matches will be:- Binton A v Home Guard; MEB v Binton B; Avenue-RBL v Wilmcote and Knights have a bye.
