Cup Report - Christmas Shoot 2007 - 20th December 2007

The Seniors, Ladies and Youth Cups were contested on 3 Jan at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington. There were only four entrants for the Youth Cup this year and two of those were new juniors this season. Lisa Edwards who has shown the least consistency shot three bulls but also shot three threes which put her out of the competition. Carl Rapson, last years runner up and Tom Morris, brother to the current holder, Gareth, shot equally well with fours and bulls and only 0.1pt separated them. Will Troth gave an excellent performance with bulls and fours to score 45.2 to win the trophy.

After the first round of the ladies competition for the Suzanne Storm Rose Bowl, the scores were close with last year's winner Michelle Dale and runner up Sheila Clarke in joint lead with 22pts and three other entrants on 21pts. Scores were better in the second leg of the tournament with a good number of clean bulls scoring 5.1 shot. Michelle Dale retained the Bowl with a score of 46pts. Jackie Mills secured second place as she banged in four bulls, three of them consecutive from her five pellets.

The Senior Shield was less well supported than last year with only 16 entrants, two of who withdrew after the first round. In this competition, entrants aged over 60 are awarded up to three bonus points on a sliding scale. After the first round Paul Clingan was in the lead, having shot a mini possible on target 1 to score 25.1pts with his five bulls. Andy Morris was pressing him with his score of 24.3 and Ray Warnock was on 23.2 with Chris Green on 23pts. In the second round, shot on target 3, Paul Clingan again shot a mini possible with two clean bulls this time to amass a total of 50.3pts out of a possible 51. Ray Warnock edged Andy Morris out of the competition when he shot four out of five bulls to score 24.2. John Maycock shot 22.1 and 23.1 but with his three bonus points for being a veteran shooter, over the age of 70, he came third in the competition with 48.2pts.

This week (10 Jan) the Norman Dale Cup, a knock out competition open to those shooters whose average league score is 30 or less from at least 2 league matches will be shot at Wilmcote.
