League Report - Matches shot on the 1st November 2007
Last Thursday, the pressure was on Binton A, MEB and Wilmcote, all of whom have
12 points from seven matches, to maintain their winning streaks and their
positions as the top three teams in the league. Home Guard were at home to
Wilmcote. Lynn Brookes was first to the mark for the visitors. She shot a steady
run of fours, punctuated by just one bull to give her 29pts. Jackie Mills
started well with two bulls but slipped a three to match Lynn's score. Alan
Brookes was next for Wilmcote. With only two fours he shot a competent 33pts and
took his team into an early lead. Irene Parsons for Home Guard copied Lynn's
performance and also scored 29. T Skinner, Wilmcote's new shooter struggled
between the bull and the threes. Home Guard's Bill Gately pulled a point back
and evened up the scores with his 30pts and Derek Powers for the home team was
unable to match his previous week's score of 32. Ben Goodman started with a bull
then steady fours but his three meant he ended on a score of 28. Richard Mills
and Sam Goodman for Home Guard and John Maycock and Tim Stephens for Wilmcote
all shot a steady runs of fours, punctuated by just one bull to give them 29pts
each. Tom and Andy Morris both shot fours and bulls to get 32pts each and put
the Wilmcote team into a winning position. Wilmcote dropped the lowest of their
eight scores to finish on 211 points whilst Home Guard ended on 201 points.
Avenue-RBL returned to Binton Club to shoot against the A team. Jo Everett shot
first for the visitors and started well with a bull but it was her only on and a
three pulled her score down to 28pts. Mark Oakey for Binton A also started on a
bull, then dropped a three but managed another bull to give him 29. Guy
Ganderton shot a steady run of fours but dropped a three for his 27 points. Gary
Hooper shot bulls and fours to give him 33 points. Dee Green had a minor problem
with her eye shield which accounted for two threes but when fixed, she pulled
them back with two bulls to get 28 points. Binton A were 7 points in the lead
when Andy Smith came to the mark. He too shot bulls and fours and got 31pts.
Paul Nixon-Barron for Avenue-RBL only got one three and with two bulls shot 29.
This was matched by John Parrot. Steve Everett for the visiting team Neil Bragg
and Jeff Smith for the host team were all disappointed with their low scores.
Alan Dyer for the home team kept out of the threes for his 31 pts. Steve Ray,
the last of the Avenue -RBL shooters shot three bulls but then slipped a four
before hitting another bull. Finishing with another four and another bull gave
him 33 points. Neil Beningfield with his score of 31 took the home team's total
score to 211. Avenue-RBL with the fictitious shooter A N Other's score of 27
ended the match on 199 points.
MEB had a return match against the Knights at Wilmcote Club. This week, both
teams fielded eight shooters. Jon Packard was first to shoot for Knights. He
kept out of the threes but with only one bull scored 29pts. Paul Clingan for MEB
slipped into the fours with his fifth pellet to score 34. Chris Green and Ray
Warnock both shot fours and bulls to get 31pts each. Paul Green shot steadily
hitting the fours with all but one of his pellets to score 29. Dave Cross, a new
shooter for MEB had a disappointing night. Antonia Dampier, shooting for only
the second time this season scored 28 for Knights. Kath Williams (MEB) did well
with four bulls but with two threes her score was pulled down to 30. Will Troth
for Knights kept out of the threes to shoot 31. Sheila Clarke was another who
shot only bulls and fours for her 30 points. Lisa Edwards was unable to match
her previous weeks shooting as she hit too many threes. Ray Hodgkins for the
home team managed to find the bull once for his 29. Fran Westwood also had a
three but with three bulls shot 30 points. Fred Williams shot 32 for MEB. Carl
Rapson returned to the
Knights side to shoot 30 giving his team a total of 208 points after they
dropped the lowest of their eight scores. Gordon Spencer, last to shoot for the
MEB also shot 30 which gave his team a total of 216 points after they too
dropped the lowest of their eight scores.
Matches this week (8 Nov) see Binton A vs MEB; Avenue-RBL vs Home Guard;
Wilmcote vs Binton B and Knights have a bye.
The delayed first round of the Whitbread Individual Competition will take place
at the Home Guard Club Tiddington on Tuesday 13 November.
