League Report - Matches shot on the 29th November 2007
The Wilmcote vs Binton A match was very tense, a do or die match with both teams
chasing the league title. Andy Morris gave the home team an early lead which was
snatched back by Andy Smith. John Maycock shot a seasons best of 34 to take the
lead back from Binton A. Wilmcote kept the lead until Michelle Dale for Binton A
just missed out on a possible by one point. Gary Hooper Binton A, shot bulls and
fours for 33 and Tom Morris Wilmcote, did almost as well with 32. With both
teams fielding eight players and having to drop the lowest score the match was
still open to either team to win but Wilmcote could not get back any more points
and ended the match with a very respectable score of 217pts which would probably
have given them the match against any other team. Binton A shot more
consistently and kept getting a point here and there to finish on 222pts which
puts them at the top of the league with 20pts from 11 matches. The captains
report that it was, "a very good match, and the pie & custard was good too!"
Binton B fielded only five shooters in their home match against Knights. Roy
Clarke and Mike Perry took Binton B into an early lead though Chris Green for
Knights scored 33, his career best and also the highest individual score by
anyone in the Knights team since it was formed. Carl Rapson for Knights, pulled
the scores all level at 120 with his 32pts. Bill Fleming, the last of Binton B's
team to shoot got four bulls but dropped a three for 31 to get the lead back for
his team. With 151pts they could do no more now. It depended on how well the
rest of the Knights team did and what they would give Binton B for the AN Other
scores. Doug Dampier had a disappointing night and Ruth Dampier was unable to
match her performance last week and Jon Packard had to be satisfied with 29.
Dropping their lowest score, Knights won the match with 205pts. Binton B got 26
for their A N Other shooters to finish on 203.
Both Home Guard and MEB were able to field eight shooters in their match at
Tiddington. Paul Clingan and Ray Warnock for MEB both just missed out on a
possible scoring 34pts which gave the visitors a good lead. Richard Mills, Steve
Hodges and Sam Goodman for Home Guard shot steady 32's but the team's middle
ranks struggled to match the consistency of MEB. Fred Williams shot better than
in last few matches with 33pts. Kath Williams and Dave Cross both shot 31
keeping MEB in front all the way. With 221pts they won the match and are now
placed third in the league with 16pts from 10 matches. Home Guard's total was
207pts.
