Webley Report - Matches shot on the 6th March 2008
Week 4 of the Webley Competition saw the two Binton teams
battling it out with the B team looking for a win which would take them to the
top of the league in view of Home Guard's bye. Binton A were shooting with a
handicap of 16pts and the full eight shooters were fielded in an effort to
defeat the B team. Andy Smith was first to the mark and with bulls and fours
shot 32pts. Rob Johnson shot a run of seven fours for 28pts. Gary Hooper pulled
a couple of points back for the A team when he shot fours and bulls for 31. Roy
Clarke shot two bulls but he also dropped a three and settled for 29pts. Neil
Bragg dropped a three but pulled it back with a bull on his next shot to finish
on 28pts. Brian Portman had a good night with 29. Alan Dyer was on form with
bulls and fours for 32. The other shooters could be called matched pairs as
Michelle Dale and Gordon O'nions who raised his performance 3 above his league
average to both scored 32; Simon Dale and Mike Perry both shot 31pts; Neil
Beningfield and Ben Chamberlain shot fours and two bulls for 30 and John Parrott
and Bill Fleming both shot fours and a single bull for 29. The handicap proved
too many for the A team to pull back and after dropping their lowest score they
ended up on 217 with the B team amassing 224pts they moved to joint top of the
league with six points from 4 matches.
Wilmcote with a handicap of 13pts shot against Knights. For Knights, Ruth
Dampier is proving to be a very strong acquisition in this her first season. She
had the highest score with 30pts, followed by Fran Westwood, Chris Green, Will
Troth and Jon Packard who all shot 29. Lisa Edwards and Doug Dampier were both
dogged with nerves and threes and had to settle for 26 and 25pts respectively.
The Wilmcote shooters, Andy Morris, Lyn Brookes and John Maycock all shoot bulls
and fours for 32pts each. Alan Brookes shot 31 and Tim Stephens shot 29. Paul
Boazman and Trev Skinner both dropped a three but with a bull settled on 28pts.
Knights were narrowly beaten by 2pts.
Avenue-RBL were at home to MEB who gave the home team 14pts. Paul Clingan looked
on for a possible but his sixth shot failed to ring the bell and he had to be
satisfied with 34pts. Ray Warnock was luckier when all his seven pellets rang
the bell for a possible. In contrast, Dee Green shooting first for the home team
had a terrible experience with two outers, a two and three fours for a miserly
17pts and Dennis Ganderton did little better with two threes and fours for
26pts. The MEB gals shot the middle ranks and each following on from their
success in the 4 A-side competition shot better than their league averages to
score 31's and 32's as did Fred Williams. Guy Ganderton and Steve Everett both
shot 28 with Guy getting a three offset by a bull. Jo Everett managed to stay
out of the threes but with only one bull scored 29pts. Gordon Spencer was the
last to shoot and with a three offset by a bull shot 28pts. The final sores were
Avenue-RBL with two A N Other scores of 28, 198 and MEB 224.
This week (13 March) sees a return to the 4 A-side Competition which will be
shot to its conclusion at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington when in the semi
finals, Knights B shoot against Avenue-RBL and MEB Girls and Fred shoot against
Wilmcote A to determine the finalists. The MEB team on recent showings must be
favourites to win the competition.

Andy Morris, will compete for the Roderick Baker Cup.
