The interclub competition otherwise known
as the Roderick Baker Cup took place at Binton Club on Tuesday 20 March. A
representative from each league team together with the current holder of the Cup
met to contest this event. Roy Clarke represented Binton B and was matched
against Paul Clingan for the MEB. With two clean bulls and five fours Roy Clarke
totalled 30.2pts but Paul Clingan was that much more accurate and with five
clean bulls, one dirty bull and a four, which gave him 34.5pts, he put Roy
Clarke out of the competition.
Home Guard were represented by Colin Fulford who shot four dirty bulls, a clean
bull and two fours - 33.1pts in his match against Lloyd Dencer shooting for RBL.
Lloyd Dencer shot steadily but his two clean bulls, a dirty bull and four fours
were not enough to see him through to the next round. Colin Fulford met Paul
Clingan in the first semi final match.
Andy Morris representing Wilmcote and who is becoming renown for his scores of
34 shot against Michelle Dale who represented Binton A. Yet again Andy Morris
only missed one bull and scored 34.3pts. Michelle Dale started well with a clean
bull but two fours spoilt her chances in this competition as she totalled
32.3pts.
Carl Rapson for Avenue Sports & Social Club (ASSC) found himself shooting
against the current holder of the Cup, the much more experienced Steve Ray (RBL).
Carl started well with two dirty bulls but three fours and two more dirty bulls
later realised that his chance of beating Steve Ray were slim. However, Steve
Ray's first shot was a four, giving hope to the younger shooter. It was not to
last, Steve Ray went on to shoot three clean bulls and three dirty bulls and
with 34.3pts, he went into the second semi final match against Andy Morris.
Both semi final matches were closely shot. Paul Clingan shot only one four and
with three clean bulls totalled 34.3 which knocked Colin Fulford who shot
33.3pts out of the running Andy Morris shot two fours and five bulls to finish
on 33.4pts. Steve Ray also shot two fours but his bulls were mainly dirty and so
he was edged out of the competition with 33.2pts.
In the final, Paul Clingan shot only one four but most of his bulls were dirty
and he scored 34.1pts. Andy Morris also shot just the one four but he shot three
clean bulls to take the Roderick Baker Cup.
Thompson Cup Matches shot on
22nd March 2007
Teams met last Thursday (22 March) to contest the Thompson
Knock Out Cup. RBL were matched against MEB but they have not yet reported their
scores. ASSC were hosts to the successful Wilmcote team. Unusually for Wilmcote,
the team shot three threes and equally surprisingly, ASSC upped their game to
reduce their threes to only 5. Even though ASSC shot well above their League and
Webley averages, with Carl Rapson's 32,
Steve Everett's 31 and 30's from Paul Nixon-Barron and Jon Packard to total 207
they were not surprised when Wilmcote shooters, notably Gareth Morris's 34; John
Maycock's 33 and Tom Morris' 32, won the match with 218pts.
The Binton teams shot against each other but with the B team having to place
reliance on two A N Others, the result seemed predictable. Michelle Dale shot a
possible and team mates Neil Bragg and Alan Dyer were also on form with 33pts.
The best Binton B could manage was 33 from Ben Chamberlain, 31 from Rob Johnson
and a clutch of 29's from other shooter present. Binton A took the match 223pts
to 207pts. The next round
of the knockout competition will be shot on Thursday 5 April.
Tonight 29 March, sees the first round of the 4 A-side Competition with Binton A
vs Binton C; Home Guard B vs Wilmcote B; MEB B vs Avenue SSC A. Other teams have
byes.
Last Saturday, the Charity Quiz organised to raise funds for the Air Ambulance
was generously hosted by Wilmcote Club. The event was well attended and over
£200 was raised from entrance money and a raffle with an extraordinary number of
prizes donated by both individuals and shooting teams. The winners with 123pts
was a team whose members comprised Ray Warnock and Peter Mole.
