Matches shot on 19th April 2007.
This week we shot the 4 A-side competition
to its conclusion.
The quarter finals of the 4 A-Side Competition took place on Thursday 12 April
when Binton A gave 3 points and the draw to Home Guard A. The score was 121
points each so Home Guard A went through to the next round. Home Guard B were at
home to Wilmcote A who gave the home team 9 points and the draw. The score in
this match was 125pts to 123pts so the second Home Guard team went through to
meet their team mates the first semi final.
MEB B gave 6 points and the draw to Avenue Sports & Social Club (ASSC). ASSC did
not need the handicap and won the match 130pts to 123pts to go through to the
next round. MEB A gave 3 points and the draw to Binton B. The final score in
this match was 122pts to 123pts and Binton B went through to meet ASSC in the
second semi final.
The semi and final rounds of the competition were shot at the Home Guard Club,
Tiddington on 19 April. Home Guard A, with an average of 119pts, gave the B team
3 points and the draw. This was a very close match with Colin Fulford for the A
team shooting 33 as did the Goodman brothers Sam and Ben for the B team. The
final score was 122pts each so with the draw in their favour, the B team went
through to the final.
In the other semi final match, Simon Dale substituted for Andy Smith so Binton B
gave ASSC just one point and the draw. As all too often happens it was the
threes that lost the match. ASSC B team shot 2 threes but Binton B shot 4 and
despite Simon Dale's 32 and Mark Oakey's 31 the team were knocked out by ASSC
whose final score was 118pts to Binton's 116pts.
In the final the teams were well matched with Home Guard B having a team average
of 115.80 and ASSC one of 116.50. Bill Gately was first up for Home Guard B.
Bill who admits to not having had a particularly good season shot a surprising
32 to get Home Guard off to a good start. Fran Westwood for ASSC B shot a three
and ended on 29pts. Derek Powers went next for Home Guard and shot his personal
average of 29. Jo Everett
for ASSC was disappointed with her 28. Sam Goodman who has shown improvement
after improvement in this his first season of competitive shooting kept his
pellets tight to the bull, to shoot 31pts. His score was equalled by Steve
Everett for ASSC. Ben Goodman was last man for Home Guard. Everyone wondered if
he would equal his personal best score (33) in the previous round. Unfortunately
not, a couple of stray threes which were balanced out with a couple of bulls
meant his score took the team to a total of 120pts. Carl Rapson for ASSC had it
all to do. He started with a bull then three fours followed by another bull. He
ended on two fours to give him 30pts altogether and the team score was 118pts.
The 4 A-Side cup was won by Home Guard B with ASSC B as runners up.
The final of the Thompson Knock Out Cup will be shot this Thursday 26 April at
Stratford Football Club when Binton the 2006/07 league winners will meet
Wilmcote, league runners up. This is sure to be a closely shot match.
