Whitbread Individual Report - 14th November 2006
Shooters met at The Home Guard Club
Tiddington on Tuesday to compete in the second and subsequent rounds of the
Whitbread Individual Competition. There has been significant improvement in
marksmanship this season which can be seen from the table on our web site and
which was borne out by performances on the night, with a number of reshoots
necessary to determine the winner in some of the heats.
The second round saw, Jon Packard shoot 4 bulls to beat Jackie Mills; Simon Dale
was on target shooting 24.1 to beat Andy Smith's 23.1; Jan Dencer beat Mike
Perry by just 0.1pts; Ray Warnock was unable to shoot because of ill health and
Richard Mills got through to the quarter finals with a bye; Andy Morris who I'm
told misfired his sighter, went on to shoot a marksman like 24.3pts to beat
Lloyd Dencer; Michelle Dale was also on target getting 24.2 to defeat Derek
Powers; Roy Clarke went through on a bye when Gary Hooper failed to appear and
John Maycock shot a steady 21 against Dennis Ganderton's 17pts.
In the quarter finals, Jon Packard & Simon Dale both shot 22.1 so had to
reshoot. Simon had the edge and defeated Jon 23.1 to 21pts. Jan Dencer dropped a
3 in her match against Richard Mills who got 2 clear bulls to put him through to
the semi final with 22.2 pts. Andy Morris did not maintain his momentum of
recent matches and only managed 2 bulls and 22pts against Michelle Dale's
accurate shooting and 24.1 pts. Roy Clarke narrowly beat John Maycock 23.1pts to
23pts.
Shooters had seven shots in the semi and final rounds of the competition. Simon
Dale shot against Richard Mills. His marksman like approach resulted in an
impressive 5 bulls, 3 of which were clean and 2 fours to give him 33.4pts.
Richard was less accurate and only found the bull once to give him 29pts.
Michelle Dale met Roy Clarke in the second heat of the semi finals. They battled
this out with them both shooting an excellent 33.4pts necessitating a reshoot.
Roy could not maintain his accuracy and shot 30.2 but Michelle, almost mirrored
her husband's shooting scored 33.3pts to put her in the final against Simon.
The strain of shooting more than the equivalent of 3 League or Webley matches in
one evening started to tell when Simon met Michelle in the final of the
competition. Simon shot 2 clean bulls then three 4's, another bull and finished
on a four with 31.2 points. Michelle started with a four then shot a clean bull,
three more fours and two bulls, to finish on 31.1 points. The spoils went to
Simon in a very close encounter. Curiously enough, throughout the evening, Simon
shot a total of 111.80pts and Michelle shot 112.70pts ) out of a possible
122.4pts (excluding the original scores in the reshot match.
